Enroute from Reno, NV to Griffin, GA, June, 2015, L/R tire deflated in Las Vegas.Cause was contact between slideout drive shaft and inside wall of L/R tire, cause unknown.
Secured driveshaft from chaffing tire, completed trip. Upon inspection as to cause in Feb,2016, found entire frame behind front axle had rolled over to right side, breaking cross member behind fresh water tank. Cause was determined to be metal fatigue due to flexing of frame, which was due to inadequate gauge of metal(gross design flaw) used in design/construction of chassis. Trailer GVW was 16,000 lbs+, and yet it sits on two 7,000 lb axles.
Frame cracks discovered in 2012, and again in 2014 were repaired AT MY RESIDENCE, WELL OUT OF WARRANTY, by Lippert, and yet both Lippert and Forest River declined any warranty repair on frame damage. Forest River never even responded to request for assistance. Insurance refused to repair. Damage was unreparable, trailer was unsellable and unusable with $38,000 still owing bank.
Only option left was to relinquish to bank.
Trailer was repossessed, sold at auction for $15,000 and I have filed for bankruptcy because of this.Thank you very much Forest River
