Multiple problems with brand new RV

Forest River - Multiple problems with brand new RV
Forest River - Multiple problems with brand new RV - Image 2

Well, it is the first anniversary of the purchase of my 2021 Forest River Sandpiper 420FL. I wish I could say it has been fun and enjoyable, but that is simply not the case.

From the time the driver towed my RV off the FunTown RV lot problems cropped up and are still occurring.

It is frustrating because was a brand new, never-lived-in unit. So what could possibly go wrong in the first 12 months of ownershipwell, more problems that I expected from a brand new unit. And that included houses and cars I have owned. I thought a large item purchase, especially a living facility, would be better constructed and warranted.

Imagine my surprise when things showed up broken or non-functional immediately.

I have spent a great deal of my own money repairing and replacing broken items in my RV because it became too hard to get warranty coverage to pay. Sometimes I simply could not wait to hear from the warranty department. In some cases, warranty paid but not the full cost of replacement. From my

experience I have learned leaving numerous phone messages and calling numerous people to get help does not convey the message on your website of customer satisfaction and service as being your number one priority even though you say At Forest River, Inc., quality and dependability are a necessity in everything we make.

Instead I believe you know that the destination trailers such as my Sandpiper 420 are an inferior product built without an understanding of the basic needs of the owner.

And your lack of transparency in customer service and warranty reflect a lack of concern. Of course, even if you are truly concerned about quality issues in these RVs, the construction of the RV presents problems that you cannot fixed without redesigning the line of RV. It does not help my problems.

At my one year anniversary I still have issues that have not been addressed or were passed off to the vendor from whom I never hear and find inappropriate. Forest River is my point of contact for every item in my RV.

FunTown RV was simply a consignment station; and clearly stated they were not responsible for any repairs, as it should be unless they caused the damage. The vendors I have dealt with were very helpful but since I did not buy the items directly from them the warranty becomes an issue. I realize this may be standard procedure as it sometimes is in new houses but it doesnt make it any easier to get things fixed.

PROBLEMS I RESOLVED WITHOUT FOREST RIVERS HELP.

Reattached weatherstripping under the front patio door. As soon as the tower pulled out of the FunTown RV parking lot a strip of plastic below the front pati door started flapping in the wind.

Halfway to our destination we pulled over and removed the stripping so I could reattach it later. After arriving and setting up my RV, I reattached the stripping that covered a row of screws. Three weeks later the stripping was hanging off again. So I used JB Weld to attach it and now it is still in place.

Stop valve in hot water heater broke.

Had to be replaced along with anode (crusted with calcium and did not heat water). Full amount I paid, $419.56, for fix, along with service call to fix bedroom ceiling switch, was not reimbursed, $383.00, by warranty department. Anode replaced but not shown here.

Ceiling molding fell off. Had to use several types of adhesive to keep the strip in place.

PROBLEMS NOT FIXED

Since there is no insulation on the main roof or the roof of the slide-outs the sound of simple rains sounds like hail.

Heavy rainfall is so loud that I check for hail. Since the living room slide-outs house the sofa and chairs the noise can be quite uncomfortable. The kitchen slide-out housing the dining table and chairs is equally as loud during a normal rainstorm.

The lack of insulation negatively affect the air quality and comfort year round. In the hotter months it is impossible to cool the RV.

For example, it is 97 degrees outside, the thermostat in the kitchen is set at 72 but constantly reads 80 while the temperature in the living room is 82 degrees if I use an extra fan. I spend a lot of time adjusting the thermostat. The windows and window frames are so hot during the day that you can burn your hand and fingers trying to open or close the window. If I had small children I would consider this a safety hazard.

The bedroom stays close to the setting because it is a small room. The living room and kitchen are cooled by the same size air conditioner as the bedroom but the area is almost three times the size of the bedroom. My electric bill is $150/month just to cool the living room to 82 degrees. The Sandpiper should have three AC units.

In cold weather, even though the heat is set at 71 degrees, the thermostat will read 64 because it is 44 degrees outside.

There is no heat control on the thermostat in the bedroom. If it the thermostat in the kitchen is 71 degrees, the bedroom temperature is 64 degrees. The Sandpiper 420 should have a separate thermostat and heater for the bedroom. Even to achieve some warmth in the RV requires a lot of propane, usually a 30gallon tank every four days at $24/tank.

Front patio door has a gap at the bottom indicating the frame is not squared.

If I push really hard it will almost close completely. The white between the door and door frame is the space between the two.

Paneling in living room is bowed and separating. Taping the outside of the two panels together is impossible because of the bowing. This wall of the living room forms the back wall of the furnace.

Broken, bent screen door, roller at bottom broken off.

Outside storage door can be opened even if locked, leads straight under my bed in my bedroom.

I consider this a safety issue so I sleep in the living room and have duct-taped the door. The picture does not show the thin, almost constant dribble of water running down the outer side of the molding.

Water runs off RV and run into molding/gasket for front slide out. Im concerned the molding/gasket will rot and compromise the integrity of slide-out, mainly the weatherproof capability of the rubber molding/gasket. And I dont understand why, during the design and construction of this model-Sandpiper 420-this issue was not considered a problem.

The sliding door to the bedroom closet/washer and dryer closet fell off the track.

The paneling is thin-walled and made of MDF so it fell away for the screws. Dont know how the fix this issue so I installed a curtain.

PROBLEM WHICH MAY BE FIXED

Bedroom ceiling fan switch stopped functioning. Still trying to obtain the current part. It took several attempts to find the correct switch because there are no part numbers listed in your website instructions.

Part is in transit, maybe.

I could list more problems but doesnt seem necessary at this point. Many of the problems are design and quality problems that cannot be fixed on my unit. Because I have talked with other FR Destination trailer owners, I do not consider the Forest River destination trailers to be a good buy.

Adding a few high-end and residential grade items simply does not address more basic issues such as lack of insulation, quality of construction and warranty and thoughtfulness of design. It does firm my resolve to never buy another Forest River product when I upgrade.

Fraud

I have never been so, not just disappointed, but now literally enraged by the cataclysmic failure of a company. Your company sells shoddily made vehicles and shifts all QI responsibility to your dealer network.

Your dealer network counts on your poorly made products to create a future revenue stream via warranty work and out of pocket repairs. Its so transparent a sane person would think getting away with it is an impossibility. Sanity has left the building.

I purchased a highly depreciating asset NEW. No one with much sense does that, but I wasnt at all concerned in this instance.

On the eve of an unprecedented global disaster, I wanted one thing only. Security. The safety of knowing I had a Forest River product and I had the warranty to stand behind that product.

What a pipe dream. Floyds RV delivered a vehicle that clearly had not been inspected.

For goodness sake the black tank wasnt clear! The major appliances had issues, they charged me $1300 for the installation of a push button generator yet I found the off brand generator in an unopened box in the storage bay. I could go on and on. The GM at the dealership literally told me when I spoke with him 48 hours after delivery to voice my alarm.

I was told he didnt have to do anything for me. Those are warranty issues.

Well let me tell you something. Those simply are NOT warranty and revenue generating issues. Those are quality control and integrity issues.

Your dealer sent me a bunch of bills.

I hate this RV.

I hate everything about it because youre manufacturing junk and the industry is representing it as high end. I no longer will tolerate your abdication of your responsibility and without an appropriate response to this final request, Im going to take legal action.

I know this wont have you shaking in your boots so let me clarify. In the horror of the past two years Ive had occasion to learn that virtually all new product owners in my area have had the same or similar experiences.

This is a class action and at this time I have over fifty parties who are all in.

You simply cannot continue to commit fraud and theft with such arrogance.

My contact number is 405-413-****.

Thank you.

Structural Manufacturing Issue

Forest River - Structural Manufacturing Issue - Image 2

10/10 dont recommend Forest River campers. Our 2019 has a structural crack that went inside and outside randomly.

Talking with insurance and multiple authorized service centers, it is a manufacturer issue. After some research, the structural cracks by slide outs are common issue with Forest River. They used to cover this regardless of who the owner was but now they state its not covered unless you are the original owner. This will cost $5-7K + 3 weeks without our home.

I will never recommend them to anyone.

So much unnecessary cost & stress. Cannot wait to get rid of this camper & get one with a brand that treats its customers well.
